No matter your religious beliefs, your sexual orientation or the color of your skin —- we are one big HUMAN family! No one is perfect, but we can be perfect at intentionally choosing to respond in every situation, the Savior’s way — with love and kindness!!
Life is messy and filled with challenges —thats a constant truth. But it’s also filled with miracles and goodness if you choose to see it.
Today, I echo the testimony I shared in a Facebook post in 2015, “I’m a Latter-day Saint, and I have a gay son. I love him with all my heart, might, and soul. And I love my Christian religion with all my heart, might, and soul. It’s the core of who I am. I will never, never, ever turn my back on my son (or any of my children), and I will never, never, ever leave my religious faith —it’s the core of who I am.” I’ve been asked how and why I stay!?
I stay because the Spirit validates truth to my heart. I stay because God has never abandoned me in-spite of my imperfections.
I stay because the gospel is a gospel of love —it’s where I was taught to “Love One Another”
It’s where I was taught to turn the other cheek.
It’s where I was taught to not walk blindly but to seek personal revelation.
It’s where I was taught to serve others.
It’s where I was taught to see His hand in all things.
It’s where I was taught to believe in Him. And trust Him.
It’s where I was taught to be bold and stand for truth and righteousness —not as a weapon but to LIFT and INSPIRE others to be their best self no matter where they are on the path of discipleship.
It’s where I was taught the two great commands; LOVE God, LOVE One Another and LOVE myself.
To anyone who feels marginalized or misunderstood —I apologize if I’ve contributed. I commit to do better. I aim to LOVE BOLDLY and follow the Savior’s example —Love One Another as He has Loved You.
